Community pharmacist Sam Wong’s near-death experience from a surgery when he was young sparked his interest in the field of medicine. Besides his job, UKM graduated Wong is also an avid writer – he has penned about topics covering general medicinal knowledge, and even fictional medical scenes from popular movies and TV series, in an informative and witty manner. Wong’s writings are well-received due to how well he simplified complex concepts; he has gone on to become Malaysia’s first pharmacist-columnist, authored a Chinese medical book, and currently manages his 7,000-follower Facebook page, @huangyaoshi. Wong sought to break the perception of pharmacy being an esoteric field and believes that understanding pharmaceutical knowledge should feel affable and have a human touch.
