Interior designer and cafe curator Choong Zi En recently embarked on a cycling trip to rediscover his own country. Together with four other friends, the 27-year-old cycled around Peninsula Malaysia – across eleven states and 2,663km – a journey which took them 96 days. Choong felt that like many fellow Malaysians, he has succumbed to the numerous stereotypical views that we harbour towards our country, such as the rising crime rates, influx of foreign labours, and the unfavourable weather. He decided to prove himself wrong by taking on this adventure to re experience his own country. Choong brought along coffee and tea to facilitate interaction with different people he met along the way, and through their stories, reflected on what it means to be Malaysian.
